Hosting looked after by the people who wrote the software
Cheap hosting is genuinely cheap until something goes wrong, at which point you discover that support is a form, the backup you assumed existed does not, and nobody can explain why the site is slow. We host what we build, on servers we configure and monitor, with a person who answers.
Why hosting and development belong together
When your developer and your hosting provider are different companies, every problem starts with an argument. The site is slow, so the developer says the server is underpowered and the host says the code is inefficient. Both are sometimes right, and neither has any incentive to investigate properly. Meanwhile you are paying two suppliers and getting neither a diagnosis nor a fix.
We combine the two deliberately. The person who can read the server metrics is also the person who can read the query that is causing them. That means a problem gets identified in hours rather than passed between organisations for a fortnight, and it means nobody can hide behind the boundary between code and infrastructure.
Practically, our hosting means a Linux server configured for your application specifically, rather than a generic environment that happens to run it. That includes the right software versions, sensible resource allocation, caching where it helps, background workers where they are needed, and monitoring configured around what your particular system does.
What is included
Every hosting arrangement includes certificates with automatic renewal so secure connections never lapse, a firewall configured to permit only what is required, automated backups stored away from the server with restoration tested, uptime monitoring that alerts us rather than you, log rotation and disk management, and operating system security updates applied on a schedule rather than whenever somebody remembers.
Email is handled thoughtfully as well. Business email is usually better placed with a specialist provider than run on the same machine as your website, and we configure the domain records that make delivery reliable, including the authentication records that stop your legitimate mail being treated as suspicious. Getting those wrong is a surprisingly common cause of business email arriving in junk folders.
Domains, and keeping them in your name
We will register and manage domains for you, and we insist on one principle. The domain is registered in your name, with your organisation as the legal owner. We have taken over too many situations where a previous supplier registered the domain in their own name and the client discovered, years later, that they did not own their own web address.
We also handle the operational side, meaning renewals tracked so nothing expires accidentally, domain records configured correctly for web and email, and transfers managed when a domain needs to move. If you already hold your domain elsewhere and are happy there, we simply work with it rather than insisting on a move.
Moving from another host
Migrations are routine and we run them carefully. The new environment is prepared and tested before anything is switched. Content and databases are copied and verified. Domain records are adjusted with short expiry times beforehand so the change takes effect quickly. The old environment stays available for a period afterwards, so there is always a way back. Most migrations happen with no visible interruption at all.
