Eighteen years of building software that other people depend on

Fedri Consulting Services Ltd is a Canadian software development and technology consulting company. We were registered in 2008 and we have been trading ever since, which puts us well past the point where most small technology firms quietly close. This page explains who we are, how we got here and how we prefer to work.

The company

A small firm that behaves like a long term partner

Fedri began in 2008 with a straightforward idea. Businesses kept being sold software by people who would not be around to maintain it, and the cost of that pattern always landed on the client. A website would be built and then abandoned. An application would work well for two years and then break after a server upgrade with nobody left who understood it. We decided to build a company that did the opposite, one that treated the years after launch as the real work rather than an afterthought.

That decision shaped everything else. It is why we stayed small and senior instead of hiring quickly and delegating widely. It is why we chose technologies with long support histories rather than whatever framework was fashionable that season. It is why we insisted on writing specifications before writing code, even when clients found the extra week frustrating. And it is why a meaningful share of our revenue comes from clients who first hired us more than a decade ago.

Today Fedri delivers a full range of software and technology services. We design and build websites, we develop web based applications that run whole business processes, we write native Android and iOS applications, we design databases, we build REST APIs, we integrate artificial intelligence into existing systems, we run Linux servers, we host and maintain what we deliver, and we advise companies that simply need a clear head and a written specification before they spend money.

Our clients have ranged from single person businesses to organisations operating across several countries, and our work has been delivered in Canada, the United States and the Middle East. Some projects took three weeks. Others have been running for over ten years and are still being improved. Both kinds matter to us, and both are treated with the same care.

What we actually do all day

Stripped of the marketing language, our work is this. We listen to how a business really operates, including the parts that are messy and undocumented. We write down what a piece of software would need to do to make that work easier. We design the data structures and the screens. We write the code, usually in Python with the Django framework. We build the mobile applications where they are needed, natively in Kotlin for Android and SwiftUI for iOS. We set up the Linux server, the web server, the database, the cache and the background workers. We deploy, we test, we train your staff and we hand over documentation.

Then we stay. We watch the error logs, apply the security patches, tune the queries that only become slow once real data arrives, restore from backup on the rare occasion it is needed and add the features that experience reveals. This second phase is quieter and less impressive to talk about, but it is where the value of a software investment is either protected or lost.

Proof rather than promises

It is easy for any development company to list technologies. It is much harder to point at something large that you built, deployed and still operate. QuranRecord is our answer to that. It is a complete school management platform for Quran education used by schools, madrasas, mosques, private teachers and families in many countries, it serves more than a million page views a month, it exists on the web, on Android and on iOS, and it is provided entirely free to the schools that use it.

Every layer of QuranRecord was produced by this company, from the database schema and the Django backend to the REST API, the two native mobile applications, the notification infrastructure, the Linux servers and the support replies that go out to school administrators. When we tell a client that we can carry a system from first sketch to daily operation at scale, that platform is the evidence behind the claim.

How we price and how we communicate

We quote in stages, with each stage described in plain language and priced separately. That gives you the ability to start smaller, see something working and then decide whether to continue, rather than committing the entire budget to a document. It also makes it obvious which parts of a request are expensive, which frequently leads to a better conversation about what is genuinely needed.

Communication is deliberately direct. You will not be handed a status report full of terms designed to make the work sound difficult. If something is going to take longer than expected, you hear it as soon as we know rather than at the deadline. If a request would create a problem later, we will say so and explain the trade off, then build whatever you decide. Our job is to make sure the decision is properly informed, not to make it for you.

Our history

How the company grew, stage by stage

Nothing here happened quickly. Each stage was earned by the one before it, and each brought a capability that we still use every week.

08

2008, the company is registered

Fedri Consulting Services is founded in Canada as a software and technology consulting business. The first years are dominated by website design, content managed sites and small database driven tools for local businesses, alongside consulting work that produced written specifications for companies who needed clarity before spending.

11

Moving from websites into applications

Clients begin asking for systems rather than pages, including membership areas, booking tools, inventory records and internal dashboards. This is the point where Python and Django become the backbone of the practice, because business logic and user permissions need a proper framework rather than a collection of scripts.

14

Taking responsibility for infrastructure

Too many projects were being harmed by hosting nobody controlled, so we brought server work in house. Linux administration, NGINX, Gunicorn, certificates, firewalls, automated backups and monitoring become part of the standard delivery rather than an optional extra bolted on at the end.

17

Work reaches beyond North America

Projects are delivered for clients in the Middle East alongside continuing Canadian and United States work. Operating across time zones teaches the habits that later make a global platform possible, particularly around written communication, documentation and scheduled background processing.

20

Native mobile becomes a core capability

Android development in Kotlin and iOS development in SwiftUI join the practice, along with everything that surrounds a real app release, including store listings, review requirements, privacy declarations, push notification infrastructure and the discipline of maintaining published applications version after version.

22

QuranRecord goes into production

Our own school management platform launches and grows into a service used by schools around the world, passing a million page views a month. Running a product at that scale changes how we build for everyone, because caching, background queues, database indexing and monitoring stop being theory.

26

Artificial intelligence enters the toolkit

Large language model features are integrated into production applications using platforms including Claude and DeepSeek, covering assistants, chatbots, classification and drafting. The company enters its eighteenth year still writing, hosting and supporting everything it delivers.

What we value

Six principles that decide how we work

These are not aspirations printed on a wall. They are the rules we apply when a project gets difficult and somebody has to choose between the easy path and the correct one.

Say the true thing early

Bad news does not improve with age. If an estimate is slipping, if a requirement will cause trouble later, or if the thing you asked for is not the thing you need, you hear about it straight away and in ordinary language.

Build for the tenth year

Every decision is made with an eye on how it will look after a decade of changes, staff turnover and framework upgrades. Clever shortcuts that only the original author understands are refused, however tempting they are on a deadline.

The user is not the buyer

The person paying for the software is rarely the person using it eight hours a day. We design for the receptionist, the teacher and the warehouse supervisor, because their daily experience decides whether the investment succeeds.

Protection is standard

Certificates, sensible password handling, permission checks, dependency updates and tested backups are included in every build. Security has never been a line item we would remove to win a quote on price.

No hostages

Clients receive their source code, their data and their documentation. Nobody should feel trapped with a supplier because leaving would mean losing the system, and a company confident in its work does not need that kind of lock.

Give something back

QuranRecord is offered free to every school that uses it, funded by the rest of the business. Building something valuable and giving it away has taught us more about software at scale than any paid project could have.

Where we are and how we work with distance

Our Canadian office is in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and our United States office is in Casper, Wyoming. Work has been delivered from those bases to clients across North America and the Middle East for many years, and distance has never once been the reason a project struggled.

What matters far more than geography is written clarity. A shared specification, regular demonstrations of working software, prompt replies and honest status reporting will beat a shared office every time. Several of our longest standing clients we have never met in person, and those relationships have outlasted plenty of local ones.

Time zones are handled by planning rather than heroics. Deployments are scheduled for quiet hours in the client region, notifications and reports are generated by background workers that respect local calendars, and support requests are triaged so that anything affecting a live system is dealt with first.
