Cookies and storage

Cookie policy

This page explains exactly what this website stores in your browser. It is a short page, because the honest answer is that we store one thing, and it is your appearance preference.

Last reviewed September 2026.

What this site stores

When you switch between the light and dark appearance, the website records that choice in your browser local storage so the site looks the way you left it next time. The value stored is simply the word light or the word dark. It is not a cookie in the traditional sense, it is not sent to our servers with each request, and it contains nothing that identifies you.

If you never touch the appearance switch, nothing is stored at all and the site follows whatever your device or browser is already set to.

What this site does not do

There is no advertising on this website and no advertising tracker. There are no social media tracking pixels. We do not build a profile of your browsing, we do not follow you to other sites and we do not sell information about visitors, because we have none to sell.

If we later add analytics in order to understand which pages are useful, this page will be updated to name the service, describe what it records and explain how to opt out, and we will do that before it is switched on rather than afterwards.

Files loaded from other services

To keep pages fast this site loads its typefaces and its layout framework from established public content delivery networks. Those requests are made by your browser directly, which means the operators of those networks receive the technical details every web request carries, such as your network address and browser type. They do not set tracking identifiers for us and we receive no information about you from them.

How to remove it

Clearing site data or browsing data in your browser removes the stored appearance preference. The site will then simply follow your system setting again. Nothing else on this website depends on stored data, so removing it has no other effect.

Client systems we build

This policy covers this website only. Applications we build for clients have their own cookie and storage requirements, usually including a session cookie that keeps a user logged in, and those are documented in each system own policy rather than here.
